“We understood we were to receive the same wage for the ‘75 season,” said Bob Coles. “When Sam Snead announced ‘No last check this year,’ it came as a big surprise. Tom and I talked to him and after going round and round for a while, he agreed that it had been his responsibility to make things clear and agreed to pay the 5 cents a bushel bonus. He said to come by in a week for the checks and when we did, he had changed his mind again.”
Snead maintained he had set a wage of 35 cents a bushel, period, so Coles and Green Hied suit in small claims court for the additional 5 cents a bushel that they felt was theirs.
