Christmas Fair a success
ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 11 approximately 200 people attended the Rappahannock Christmas Fair which was a benefit for the Rappahannock Community Directory at the Old Elementary School in little Washington. Given rainy weather and the fact that an article covering the event and an advertisement for the Fair did not get into last seek’s Rappahannock News by mistake, the turnout was better than expected.
Local craftspeople and a few from outside the area sold pottery, hand-made oak mirrors, intricately decorated gingerbread men, paintings, leather goods, Christmas wreaths and decorations, polished stones, bread and other baked goods, stained glass, macrame hammocks and swings, stone candle holders, children’s books, photographs and a commemorative silk screen poster.
A concession stand sold pecanburgers and juice. Musicians played flutes, autoharps and guitars throughout the day. Many of the exhibitors brought their children with them and the day was filled with a caring and playful feeling for the community’s young ones. Local people were informed about the idea of the Directory and took forms away with them to fill out or filled them out on the spot.
