Janet Alther was named queen of the Washington carnival festivities and received a tiara Friday evening in a brief ceremony opened by Mayor Newbill Miller. She received a total of 1882 votes.
Miss Alther is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johas Alther. She received a gift and a bouquet of flowers which were donated by Fussell’s Florist. Front Royal. Judd’s Jewelers of Luray gave the tiara.
First runner up was Dee Dee Grant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eldridge with 639 votes and in third place was Aletha Adkins with 587 votes. She is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. James Adkins.
