Deputy Orfila reported that the gun was taken from Carter and brought back in to the house while the accused and others at the scene awaited police arrival. Carter was a former boyfriend of Miss Gatewood, according to police information.
Carter is being held without bond at the Fauquier County jail in Warrenton. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 17 in the Rappahannock Court House.
