Whorton
William Robert Whorton, 56, of Amissville, died Saturday, May 28, at the Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, following a brief illness.
A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of the late Henry Taylor and Lillie Margaret Cloud Whorton. He was a heavy equipment operator and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mamie Ann Settle; two daughters, Mrs. Michael Nethers and Mrs. Billy Atkins, both of Amissville; three sons, William Edward Whorton of Washington, Franklin Lee Whorton and Ronnie Thomas Whorton, both of Amissville; five sisters, Mrs. Ressie Utz and Mrs. Grace Corbin, both of Manassas, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Dodson of Woodbridge, Mrs. Virginia Clatterbuck and Mrs. Eunice Lavinia Whorton, both of Amissville; five brothers, Ray Whorton of Amissville, Balyus Whorton of Centreville, George Whorton of Castleton, Johnny Whorton of Manassas, and Ervin Whorton of Linden; and five grandchildren.
The funeral was held June 1 at 2 p.m. at the Massanova Pentecostal Church near Amissville, conducted by the Rev. Lindsay Savage. Burial was in the Washington Masonic Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Douglas Perkins, James Whitmer, Kenneth Clater, Robert Moore, Edward Clark, William Wilson, Haywood Wharton and Johnny Heflin.
