Editor: Win the Rappahannock Planning Commission take the next step to triple our property taxes when it meets on June 8th? Taxes will surely be doubled if the more than one thousand subdivision lots already in existence are occupied. What will happen if the Commission allows even one more piece of farmland be rezoned residential and subdivided (under the current zoning regulations)? This action will open the flood gates of greed to other land vultures. Nobody will have justification for stopping them; the precedent will be set
And our taxes will begin to climb. AH other counties around us have found that increased population brings increased taxes to pay for education, refuse disposal, police services, and so on. Their experience tells us that another thousand families will at least double our taxes and new subdivisions will only worsen the situation. We will see our taxes tripled eventually if we do not act.
