The church bell, damaged during a tornado in 1929, pealed once more Sunday after its restoration and relocation in a new steeple atop the Woodville Baptist Church. Bellringers were the oldest active member, Raymond Johnson, and the youngest active member, Kristie Johnson.
The storm struck May 2, 1929 at 3:10 p.m.—the Baptist and Episcopal churches along with Woodville schoolhouse were among the buildings demolished. The church bell was broken but saved, and now maintains its lofty perch in the steeple which is still under construction.
