Jones Resigns Following Jones’ report, Commission Chairman Pete Luke announced the Criminal Justice Planner’s resignation from the PD 9 staff to assume a position with the Virginia Association of Sheriffs. The commissioners unanimously authorized a letter of resolution awarding the highest praise and thanks to Jones for his work in the planning district. "If we have any money, I’d like to see him get a plaque,” Commissioner McNear added to the resolution. "I hope we can get someone half as good to replace him,” McNear concluded.
Dove Season Set
During a recent public meeting of the ten-member Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries., which was held at the Hotel Roanoke, July 22, 1977, in that city, the body set the hunting season dates for both dove and rail. The 1977 opening date for hunting dove in the Commonwealth is September 10, 1977 with the closing date set for November 5, 1977. The second part of the split dove season opens on December 21, 1977 and concludes on January 2,1978.
September 10,1977 was set as the opening date for rail hunting and November 18, 1977 as the closing date.
