Mrs. John R. Hudson and granddaughter, Rebecca Beall Hudson of Luray were luncheon guests Friday of their aunt, Mrs. Virginia Lewis. Overnight guests Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. Earle Wayland were Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Wayland, Jr. of Dale City and Steve Brown of Richmond. Sunday dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Wayland, Kim and Sean of Viewtown. Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hawkins attended the Golden family reunion on Sunday at the home of Mrs. Ethel Ramey in Slate Mills. Mrs. Lester Dodson returned home last Tuesday after spending a week at Myrtle Beach, S. The 26th annual KEEP VIRGINIA GREEN Poster Contest, sponsored by Virginia Forestry Association and the Virginia Division of Forestry, officially opens this week. The contest, which offers $3200 in prizes, is open to all students in grades 1-12 who are enrolled in any public or private Virginia school. Deadline for entries is December 2, 1977.
The general theme for the 1977 contest is “Wood—Our Daily Resource.” Students are encouraged to focus on the many uses of wood in their daily lives, including wood as a source of energy.
Posters will be judged in January on the basis oi originality, artistic design, creativity, treatment of the theme, lettering, and suitability for reproduction. Winners will be announced in March, 1978.
Top prize in the contest is $400 cash; there is a total ol 739 student prizes in all. Twelve $25 Teacher Awards and four school awards are being offered. Rules for the contest may be obtained from principals and teachers who have received contest announcements, or by writing to Virginia Forestry Association, 1 North Fifth Street, Richmond, Virginia
