The Warrenton-Fauquier and John Marshall Chapters of the Izaalc Walton League will sponsor a National Hunting and Fishing Day at the Warrenton Volunteer' Fire Department carnival grounds on Saturday, September 24.
Turkey hunters are invited to cluck, putt, yelp, whistle and kee-kee in the turkey calling contest, scheduled to begin at 12:30.
Participants will compete in three categories—adult Fauquier County resident, out-of-county and juniors 16 years of age or younger. Each contestant will be given three minutes to complete three required and two optional calls.
Beginning at 11 a.m., other activities and events of Hunting and Fishing Day include: —Movies by Fauquier game wardens Gordon Wilkes and Dwight Camp bell. —Casting, camping and hiking instructions plus a fly tying demonstration by Hank Woolman, proprietor of the Outdoorsman in Middleburg. —Archery instructions and demonstration by Vickie Moore, past Virginia State Archery Champion.
