“An awful lot of politics and pork barreling” went into that proposal, he maintained, in an attempt to get Northern Virginia legislators to support the bond.
Beard said he was opposed to the park improvements section of the bond issue primarily because it includes “no provisions for parks in this area.”
He said he would vote for the school section because Germanna Community College had been such a help in the community to both black and white alike.
“Education solves a lot of problems in this area,” he maintained.
According to Beard, Germanna is beginning to have an influx of students from Northern Virginia because the community college there is too crowded.
‘‘The education bond would relieve this and give us more room for our people,” he said.
