Occasionally, for controversial rezoning issues or at budget time, the court room is packed. But Rap* pahannockers should realize that their protests would be more effective if they showed up more than once a year. This wouldn’t mean coming to every meeting—just coming to a few without having an ax to grind. _We applaud the Rappahannock Citizens for Better Education for moving in the right direction. Rap* pahannock’s Superintendent of Schools attended the last Citizens for Education meeting and invited members to attend the next School Board meeting in order to gain a better understanding of the complexities that the Board must deal with.
At last month’s School Board meeting, Citizens for Better Education were there. They didn’t ask the School Board members for anything, didn’t give them advice, didn’t criticize—just sat and observed.
If the Rappahannock Citizens for Better Education continue to monitor meetings in this manner, we feel they’ll have more standing when they do decide to speak out on an issue. They will have demonstrated their commitment and concern with action instead of just words.
