Activities
After 31 years, UNICEF is still in the business of helping our most valuable resource —children. And the Children’s Fund goes further to do this. In terms of distance...UNICEF goes to over 100 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In terms of service...UNICEF helps provide a wide range of programs for children, in health, nutrition and education.
Funds contributed to UNICEF go further too. You may think a dime won’t go far these days but, through UNICEF, just 10 cents can vaccinate a child against polio. Just 25 cents can provide a clinical thermometer for a health worker. 50 cents can buy 12 exercise books for a literacy program.
October 31st is National UNICEF Day by Presidential Proclamation—a time to highlight the needs of children and a time to act on their behalf. Here in Rappahannock county an observance of UNICEF Day is being sponsored by The United Methodist Youth Fellowship. Activities will include door-to-door collections for UNICEF on Sunday evening, October 30.
