In a freewheeling session last Wesnesday, the Rappahannock Planning Commissioners met with Commonwealth Attorney George Davis to continue review and revision of the county’s zoning and subdivision ordinances.

Davis proposed a new approach to the problems of uncontrolled development and loss of agricultural, forest al and open space land to subdivision uses. “All subdivided land should be rezoned” from agricultural and conservation to a residential category” Davis said, suggesting that the Planners drop ordinance regulations that allow the Zoning Addministrator to approve up to five land subdivisions administratively.

The Planners appeared to agree with - the Commonwealth Attorney’s advice.

Davis proposed that only uses compatible with agriculture be permitted within agricultural districts without a rezoning. He mentioned seasonal wayside stands, boarding houses, non-profit athletic fields and P race courses as examples of compatible uses.
