Thursday, Dec. 22, the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals members listened to almost five hours of testimony concerning the reopening of the ski area in Harris Hollow. After hearing proponents and opponents of expansion plans, BZA members felt they still didn’t know enough to either grant or deny a special use permit application.
Further, BZA member Hal Forward apparently believed that county citizens weren’t sufficiently informed on the exact nature of company president James Moore’s intention to reopen the financially troubled recreation area with yearround snowless sledding.
Forward’s motion to publish the entire special use permit application for two weeks in the Rappahannock News passed unanimously and the Board set a second public hearing on the issue for Thursday, January 12, at 7 p.m. at the court house in Washington.
