At times, proceedings in the crowded courtroom on Thursday threatened to erupt into a shouting match. BZA Chairman Josef Gardiner maintained control of the meeting on each occasion, and everyone wishing to speak was given an opportunity to address the Board—some time and time again.
Moore, president of both the Rappahannock ski area and its parent operation in Camelback, Pennsylvania, began by dismissing rumors that certain county residents have financial interests in the business.
“First, no one owns stock in the Rappahannock Ski area except Camelback,” he stated. He also told the BZA that np one in the county would be offered the opportunity to buy stock unless that same opportunity was offered to all county citizens, adding that Edgar Brenner and Evan McNear, both “secured creditors” for $25,000 each, were the only people in Rappahannock with any financial interest in the ski area.
After the ski area went bankrupt following two years of miserable weather, Moore said he still thought it was a "potentially viable” business venture if the management could find summer activities and a partner.
