possibilities of installing an Alpine slide similar to the one in operation there for possible use at Camelback and Rappahannock. Moore said he saw the crowds waiting to ride on the attraction, took a trip down the mountainside himself and was impressed.
Camelback Slide Successful
A snowless alpine slide like the one in Bromley was put in at Camelback and opened last Memorial Day, Moore continued. “People had a good time...We had a nice atmosphere of gayety and good fun. We didn’t make a lot of money but we whacked away at our off-season loss,” he said.
After deciding to try an Alpine slide to fill the empty summer slot here, Moore also found a partner in Pico’s Peak Incorporated, from Rutland, Vermont. He said that the new partner would purchase the ski area property and so provide the cash to pay off creditors from the bankrupt Rappahannock area.
According to Moore, a final decision on the partnership and slide was reached on December 1. Application for a special use permit was filed on that day, allowing sufficient time to advertise last week’s special BZA meeting.
