I am announcing at this time, therefore, my candidacy for nomination to a fifth term in Congress, subject to the action of the 7th District Republican Convention in May.
If nominated and elected, I will commit my best efforts to bringing federal spending more in line with income; to meaningful federal tax reform geared to easing the fearful tax burden now borne chiefly by the moderateincome working citizens of this country and to stimulating job-generating economic growth; to a strong national defense as an essential of our continuing quest for a stable peace in the world; to a realistic energy policy aimed at reducing our dependence on foreign oil; and to a reduction in the oppressive regulatory impact of the Federal Government on the farmer and on small business in general.
