Democrat Staff Writer An important new program is under way to furnish the President’s House (1732-1733) at the College of William ^ind Mary with antiques of Queen Anne and Chippendale styles.
Many of the authentic pieces are being sought here since this region is known for its histQric Virginia homes and furnishings^^
Dr. Clement E. Conger, White House curator, has recently accepted.-.', the chairmanship of the search for 18th and 19 Century English and American pieces.
The President’s House, a stately Georgian brick building, is at the end of the Duke of Gloucester Street opposite the colonial Williamsburg Capitol on the front lawn of the Wren Building.
Constructed in 1732-33, the house is the oldest presidential home on any American campus.
It has served as the home of all but one of William and Mary’s 22 presidents and remains as one of only three original 18th Century buildings in Williamsburg now used for the same purposes as it was two centuries ago.
