Recent flooding and dam failures throughout the nation have touched most federal agencies in some way. “The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) of the Department of Agriculture is no exception,” said State Conservationist David N. Grimwood.
Grim wood related some of the inquiries his staff has received concerning the safety of SCS dams—Has the SCS ever lost a dam built in Virginia under the Public Law 566 watershed program? How about other states? If not, why? Are dams built under SCS programs inspected after construction?
