Dolls are classified in three categories: antique bisque, unglazed, and china heads,' glazed, 75 years old; composition, sawdust and glue, 25 to 74 years old; and hard plastic or vinyl, mostly under 25 years old. Each type requires a different technique and the china doll is the most difficult patient.
"You must have a good china repair glue, apply cement filler which stabilizes the cracks and cover it all with a china paint which I mix myself and apply with an air brush,” she explained. “It is very difficult to match skin tones and textures and much care must be taken with this. Bodies are the part most commonly in need of repair, along with extremities. Fingers and toes must be built up over wires inserted in arms and legs. The most important object is to prohibit further deterioration.
