to give this matter their careful consideration and to communicate their views to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
One obvious solution to the traffic problem would be to divert part of the traffic to or from the "Ski Area” onto this alternate route. Since the citizens who live along all of these roads will be the victims of an affirmative decision by the Board, it seems only fair that special consideration be given to their views on this matter. This may be facilitated through the use of a formal opinion poll directed toward these residents now that most of the relevant facts have been made public.
Some publicity has been given to an informal sampling of opinion which was made over a year ago and which was directed only at the general question of “reopening the Ski Area,” and not the installation of the concrete roller coaster which has now been proposed. I believe that the results of that poll were misleading, and that if the Board feels that such action would be appropriate and useful, a new poll should be undertaken.
Finally, I would like to raise some questions concerning this matter which I do not believe have received sufficient attention to date.
(1) Will the installation and operation of the "Alpine Slide” really have any significant effect on our County’s unemployment situation, or is this merely a device to divert attention away from the real issues by raising false hope of new jobs?
