Win Prizes
Three Wakefield Country Day School students won prizes in the poetry contest for students in grades 1-6 sponsored by Radio Station WFFV-FM (Front Royal- < Middletown). Students from over thirty area schools participated in the contest, which was judged by the English faculty of the Lord Fairfax Community College.
John Piper, a sixth grader at Wakefield and son of Col. and Mrs. Austin Bach of Hume, won first prize in the contest with his entry entitled “February 14.”
Third grader Allen Grimm, son of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Grimm of Front Royal, and First grader Karen Weil, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Weil of Chester Gap, were among the six runners-up in the contest.
Wakefield students won one-quarter of the prizes offered in the contest.
