$700. That’s the challenge goal for this year's Rappahannock Heart Fund drive. During the month of February, volunteers will be canvassing door-todoor throughout the county. They’ll be soliciting contributions to fight America’s Number One Killer—heart disease. It killed over a million .Americans last year and affected 29 million more in one way or another. Here in Rappahannock, an alarming 57.6 percent of deaths in 1975 were classified as cardiovascular deaths.
As they distribute informational material on heart disease, volunteers in Rappahannock will collect for the Heart Association’s research, education and community service programs. Since 1949, over $268,000,000 in Heart Fund dollars have gone into research. By policy, the Heart Association allocates 57 percent of its national budget to research.
