A-pples that are cut up for salad or fruit dessert won’t turn brown if they are soaked in moderately salted water for 10 minutes after being peeled and cut.
B-ake potatoes in half the normal time by letting them stand in boiling water for 15 minutes before putting them in a very hot oven.
C-ake will never stick to the pan, if you grease the pan with a shortening that does not contain salt, and then lightly dust it with flour.
D-esalt over salted soup by adding a raw potato to it and boiling it for a few minutes.
E-gg yolk brushed on bread before baking gives it a golden brown glaze.
F-ried potatoes will be a beautiful golden brown if they are sprinkled lightly with flour before frying.
G-rate cheese into the crust when you are making an apple pie.
H-ardened rolls can be softened by sprinkling them lightly with water and placing them in a brown paper bag in a hot oven for a few minutes.
I-f waxed paper is placed over the knife, you can slice butter into nice clean cut squares for your company dinner table.
J-uices from fruit pies will not escape if the edge of the bottom crust are brushed with water before putting on the top crust.
K-eep fudge frosting soft and workable while using it by placing the dish in a pot of hot water.
L-emon juice added to meringue makes it cut cleaner.
M-ix a bouillon cube into every pound of ground beef for juicy meaty hamburgers. N-uts and raisin should be dredged in a little flour before adding to cake batter to keep them from sinking to the bottom. O-inions won’t make you cry while you are peeling them if you hold them under cold running water while peeling. P-ies will have a flaky upper crust if the top is brushed lightly with cold water before baking. Q-uarter frankfurter rolls lengthwise, spread with soft butter, sprinkle with garlic powder or caraway seeds and toast under the broiler at 425 degrees for 5-10 minutes for delicious dinner rolls. R-ice grains will stay separate and white if soaked in water to which a teaspoon of lemon juice has been added, one for each quart of water. S-oak your oven racks in one cup of ammonia in a tub of water for easy cleaning. T-o avoid shrinkage, cook all roasts at a very low temperature about 300 degrees. U-se a large amount of salt or baking soda if something catches on fire in your oven. It will stop the smoke and flames immediately.
