Kilpatrick stated that the School Board and the Board of Supervisors should be natural adversaries with the School Board’s primary responsibility in providing a quality education while the Supervisors worried about taxes.
“Voters are parents as well as taxpayers,” die continued. "I think many would be willing to lobby the Supervisors to pass the budget without cuts.”
Education Prime Concern
The final speaker, Henry Hudson, said that a teacher’s primary concern should be the education of students, not. salaries or REA meetings. “How many teachers are tax payers in Rappahannock?” he asked. “How many live in Rappahannock?”
Many teachers don’t live in the county because they can’t find or afford housing, Bomberger answered. All who live in Rappahannock pay taxes here, he added.
Mollie Hobson asked Hudson if he intended to imply that there were teachers who were not interested in the education of children.
"You made the statement. I didn’t," Hudson responded, without adding further explanation.
In conclusion, Mrs. Massie volunteered to serve on the budget “fact finding committee” with Alan Stokes as the other member and Paul Nichols as alternate.
