Bomberger asked the School Board members for their opinions on the proposed salary scale but Chairman Beverly Massie responded that Monday’s meeting was an “input meeting” for informational purposes only. Boardmembers have not had sufficient time to look at the overall budget requests or to get figures from the state on educational funds available, she said. “It would be inappropriate to comment at this time,” Mrs. Massie concluded.
Bloomer asked Bomberger if he had any figures on the cost of the fringe benefits requested by the teachers.
“$16,800 maximum for all 84 employees included in the system," Bomberger replied.
60 Per Cent Membership
Bomberger noted that 60 per cent of the county’s teachers were members of the Education Association, currently meeting at least once a month. Teachers who live out-of-county face a hardship in attending these after school meetings, he said.
“You're asking us to assist you to make your organization stronger," commented Bloomer.
