Witold Kuncewicz, Race Committee Chairman, pointed out a change in the rules for this year’s event. “In all Rappahannock races this year mares will be allowed 10 pounds instead of the usual 5. We're doing this in an effort to get more mares into point-to-point racing. If we succeed and if other races make the same effort, this should help identify good brood mare prospects for the preservation and perpetuation of the classic longdistance horse.”
