In a sea of business suits (excepting, of course, the nine women members), ties can afford a touch of individuality against a backdrop of pinstripes and flannel. There are statements to be made with neckwear which cannot be said by mere stripes or even paisley.
Naturally, in a political atmosphere, many of the statements are patriotic. Several delegates sport ties bearing American flags, soaring eagles or minutemen.
Perhaps because of his senior position, House Majority Leader A. L. Philpott (D-Henry) has the ultimate in patriotic ties—displaying waving flags, liberty bells and minutemen.
Ties with Virginia themes are also popular and Del. Earl Bell (D-Loudoun) has contributed considerably to this display of patriotism.
