The Medicare hospital insurance deductible—the cost of covered services in each benefit period not paid by Medicare—has been increased to $160 for benefit periods beginning in 1979 from the 1978 figure of $144, Bruce A. Hundley, social security manager in Culpeper, said recently.

The deductible is intended to be roughly equal to the cost of one day of care in a hospital. The increase was necessary, Hundley said, because of the continually rising cost of medical care.

The deductible is the only amount a Medicare patient is responsible for during the first 60 days of hospital care in a benefit period for covered services.

The increase in the deductible also affects other 1979 per-day costs under

Department of Highways and decided to put insurance for school buildings and content out on bids. Action on the six-year plan for Rappahannock schools was tabled.

The first of the School Board’s four special budget meetings will be held , February , at 7:30 p.m. in the elementary school library. Those wishing to speak at this meeting are asked to call the school board offices to be placed on the agenda. A written copy of all presentations will be required for school board records.
