The bodies of Gene and Virginia Wood were recovered from the flood swollen Thornton River early Wednesday morning by the Sperryville Rescue Squad. The Woods were returning to their home at Fletchers Mill late Tuesday evening when their car stalled out in high water on a bridge over the Thornton, according to witnesses. Bids for a road construction project at Chester Gap will be received September 18 by the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation in Richmond
Plans call for the grading, draining and paving on 0.4 of-a-mile of two-lane secondary route 610. The project is designed to improve alignment between US 522 and Secondary 660 at Chester Gap Post Office.
In other work scheduled for the Culpeper District, bids are due on September 18 for installation of guardrail at various locations. Also, on the basis of low bids received during July. MAKCO, Inc., of Charlottesville was awarded a contract for $47,827 to replace guardrails at different locations in the district. In addition Airport Markings. Inc. of Alexandria was the low bidder at $102,722 to complete marking pavement at various sites in the district.
