As important as physical perfection is, its ranks second to termperament in Carol Miller’s breeding operation. “If they don’t have sound temperament, they’re no good to anybody as a pet and most dogs that are bred turn out to be pet quality (as opposed to breeding stock or show quality),” Carol said. “They’re supposed to be protective,” she added, noting that there was a big difference between protective and vicious or unstable. “Once you’ve been invited in our house, my dogs have the sense to know you’re invited and would never bother you,” she said. “I get furious when I hear people say that a German shepherd will turn on you. German shepherds will die for their families. They’d never turn unless they were a sick or crazy dog that shouldn’t be alive anyway.”
