To properly dry firewood, consider the following:
—Wood more than 4” in diameter should be split. Small pieces dry faster than large pieces.
—Stack the wood neatly in a sunny, windy location.
—Cover the top of the stack with plastic, tarpaper, tin, etc., to keep rain and snow from wetting the wood.
—Keep the wood off the ground to help prevent decay, termites and other pests from entering the wood. Plastic can be put on the ground under the pile to prevent moisture in the lower layer.
