Dry cleaning fluids slowly dissolve candle wax and can be used to remove wax. Many department stores, groceries and carpet dealers sell dry cleaning fluids or solvents which can be used to remove tars, greases and waxes. They like all spot removal reagents, should be tested in an inconspicuous area to see if they have an adverse effect on carpet dyes or fibers.
Even though they may not harm the fiber or make the carpet dyes bleed, only small amounts should be used to prevent dry cleaning solvent from getting to the back of the carpet. The solvent may produce swelling or deterioration of the latex on the back. Therfore, only small amounts of the solvent should be applied to the wax at any one time.
