Supervisor chairman E. P. Luke reported that details of the transaction are being worked out between commonwealth’s attorney Douglas Baumgardner and Sperryville lawyer James W. Fletcher.
The problems of trash are also discussed in the open portion of the January board meeting. “I want to talk about a subject dear to all of our hearts—the dumpsters,” joked Luke. He passed around copies of an article that appeared in the October 1979 issue of The Progressive Farmer on one North Carolina community’s solution to litter associated with dumpster sites.
In Rappahannock, Luke said, “homemakers clubs, garden clubs, environmental groups—they all want to take on nice projects. The Isaac Walton League said they were going to do something at Huntly. They haven’t moved one stone at Huntly.”
Luke noted that homemaker clubs in Wilson County, North Carolina, have adopted dumpster sites as beautification projects. “If the public saw organizations doing something positive about the problem that this board wrestles with all the time, we might get better
