On Wednesday, January 2, the Rappahannock Panthers hosted the Page Panthers, beginning the new decade with a 64-50 victory and bringing their season record to 4 wins and 3 losses.
Both teams appeared to have an off night at the basket. Coach Jim Logan was surprised that his players hit 46 percent of their field goal attempts. “Anytime you shoot over 40 percent, you’re doing well. It seemed like we missed a lot more than that,’’ the coach said.
The Panthers did better from the charity stripe connecting with 80 percent of their free throws.
Neither team scored until a minute an<T twenty seconds into the game and it was Dean Wilson who gave the Panthers their opening basket. Rappahannock was ahead 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and never led by less than six points for the rest of the contest.
The Rappahannock Panthers kept their margin a comfortable ten points for most of the game and increased their lead by eighteen in the fourth quarter.
Greg Bright had game honors with 18 points and 10 rebounds, followed closely by Gary Leake with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Together, the dynamic duo accounted for 20 of Rappahannock’s 39 rebounds and 35 of the team’s 64 points.
Leake is now leading the Skyline District in scoring with Bright ranking 5th.
