Rappahannock customers of Centel, the Central Telephone Company of Virginia, will soon be offered two options designed to reduce the cost of toll calls.
According to David Jones, tariff administrator for the State Corporatipn Commission, TelPlan will be instituted on January 31 with Circle Calling offered as of April 15.
TelPlan gives customers 30 minutes of toll calls for a flat fee. The plan is completely optional. Only those who want to take part pay the fee and receive 30 minutes of calling time with no toll charges. Customers who do not choose the option pay standard toll rates.
Under TelPlan. customers in the Washington area with a “675” exchange will pay S2.35 for 30 minutes of calling time to Front Royal and an eight cent per minute charge for each additional minute. Thirty minutes of calling time to Culpeper exchanges will cost $2.85 with a 9.5 cent charge for each additional minute.
(Regular rates for direct dial toll calls from Washington to Front Royal are 23 cents for the first minute and 16 cents for each additional minute; from Washington to Culpeper, 27 cents for the first minute and 18 cents for each additional minute).
