Senator Miller, who has represented Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Page and Rockingham counties and Harrisonburg in Senate District 26 since 1976, gave *‘a few random observations” before the state legislature convened Jan. 9. Miller, 36, served two terms in the House before election to the statev Senate and unsuccessfully bid for the Republican nomination for the U. S. Senate in 1978.
Senator Miller said he continues to favor relaxing state law on the manufacture of industrial alcohol for fuel, including gasohol, and especially for the small operator.
Regarding gasoline tax increases. Senator Miller said he is "on the horns of a dilemma” representing a rural area. He said he hates to see another tax go up, but “we need that money in the rural areas for roads.
“An increase in the gas tax is about as fair as you can get because everyone who uses roads is paying the tax," said Senator Miller, who hopes against hope for highway revenue from the general ' budget also.
