Judge William F. Moffett Jr. of Juvenile and Domestic Court recently has announced his retirement as of Feb. 1. His absence from the bench will be a loss to Rappahannock as well as Loudoun and Fauquier counties.

Judge Moffett has served ably in as difficult a role as a judge can have—that of handling domestic disputes. The role calls for sensitivity, understanding, compassion and, at times, sternness. A judge with these attributes can play a weighty role in steering a troubled juvenile away from criminal tendencies or salvaging the best possible home situation for the child of divorced parents. Judge Moffett has shown these abilities.
