Funeral services for Lester Braxton James, 54, of Amissville were conducted Saturday at the Amissville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ray Crockett and the Rev. W. A. Layman.

Burial was in Hillcrest Memory Gardens at Jeffersonton.

Mr. James died Wednesday, December 31, 1980, at the Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton. He was an employee of the Warrenton Training Center and a member of the Amissville United Methodist Church and Amissville Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katie Marie Scott James of Amissville, two sons, Carl Lester James of Chester and David Braxton James of Culpeper; one daughter, Carolyn Marie James of Amissville; one brother, Robert Judson James of Brandy Station; three sisters, Rebecca Harrup of Charlottesville, Mildred Chapman of Crozet and Judy Chandler of Viewtown, and two grandchildren.

Gillingham

Bertha Hudson Gillingham of Alexandria, 96, died December 9, 1980 in Mount Vernon Hospital, Alexandria. She was born in Washington, Va., the daughter of the late Thaddeus H. and Mary B. Hudson. She was the widow of A. Scott Gillingham.

She was a teacher in the Fairfax County School System in the early 1900’s and after the death of her husband in 1916, she assumed responsibility of running their farm, which is now part of Fort Belvoir.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lynch of Annandale and Esther Kaiser of Alexandria; a son, Joseph W. Gillingham, also of Alexandria; four sisters, Mattie Furr of Woodbridge, Alemeda Armentrout of Hyattsville, Md., Lorena Hudson of Washington, D. C. and Esther Burner of Keyset, w? ■ *

Funeral services were conducted December 11 by her grandson, the Rev. David Kaiser, at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Alexandria. Interment was at Friends Meeting House Cemetery near Fort Belvoir.
