Most ot the proposals are expected to die quick deaths, including attempts to strengthen the state’s conflict of interest laws for members of the legislature and statewide office holders, a proposed constitutional amendment limiting state spending and measures calling for popular election of school boards, creation of a Judicial Nominations Commission to assist in selection of judges and single-member districts in the House of Delegates.
Also left over from last year are bills that would raise the drinking age for beer from 18 to either 19 or 20, revisions of the state’s criminal statutes concerning rape and parole and repeals of the sales tax on food and non-prescription drugs.
