Farmer* Seek Help Farmers and other agricultural interests are asking for help from the legislature after suffering through one of their worst years in the state since the Depression. Sen. Charles Waddell, D33rd (Loudoun), chairman of a subcommittee studying Virginia’s horse industry, said he will propose that the state .spend up to $100,060' frftm the expected s«rtphrt“ftrr" a horse breeder incentive program. Breeders of top quality horses in the state could compete for cash prizes, as they do in 31 other states, Waddell said. Any contribution by the state to the program would have to be matched by the Virginia horse industry, which injects $171 million into the state’s economy annually and employs 20,000 persons.
Del. Earl E. Bell, D-20th (Loudoun), said a committee studying methods of agricultural land preservation will deliver an interim report this year and continue its work for presentation at the 1982 session. The House Agriculture Committee, on which Bell sits, may become a co-patron of the farmland preservation bill that spurred creation of the study commission in the 1980 session, Bell said.
Bell said he will introduce a resolution this year aimed at helping localities offset revenue ^reductions from “homes’! exemptions to local real estate taxes.
