fUppahaaaoefc Nn» Staff THlrr Tax payers will have a chance to express their support or opposition to the county’s proposed $3,158,801 budget for 1981-82 at the supervisors’ public hearing, next Monday morning, June 1, at 10 a.m. in the court house.

Contemplated expenditures for the coming year represent an increase of approximately 15 percent over the current $2,752,160 budget.

As proposed, the budget requires a tax rate of $5.70 per $100 on real estate and $1.40 on personal property. Personal property taxes, however, will be levied on licensed vehicles only, part of the reason for the proposed 29 percent tax increase on real estate over this year’s rate of $4.40.

All but 45 cents of the proposed $1.30 tax hike is required to offset revenues lost by the supervisors’ decision earlier this year to drop the levy on farm machinery, livestock, household goods (previously taxed as personal property) and merchants capital. Without that action, the tax increase on real estate necessary to support the same level of proposed expenditures for 1961-82 would have been only ten percent
