Responding to attacks on Gatewood’s credibility, Baumgardner maintained that if Martin was going to admit the arson to anyone, it would be an associate and friend, “someone like Albert Gatewood.”

After hearing testimony from 10 a.m. on, the jury retired to consider a verdict at about 7 p.m. A little over an hour later, they returned to find Martin guilty on five counts Of arson, sentencing him to serve two years on each. Judge Robertson set final sentencing for July 13 when he will rule following study ofa pre-sentence report whether terms are to run concurrently* or consecutively.
