Councilwoman Dorothy Hawkins made the motion to grant Kramer’s variance; Charlie Jenkins seconded it, and the motion was unanimously approved. The motion granting the variance stipulates that the porch or steps not be forward of Janie Pullen's porch next door. Kathryn Treanor appeared before the Council as a spokesman for the Rappahannock Country Dance Society. Because of recent complaints before the Supervisors about noise from the Community Center, Treanor read a copy of a letter that she had sent to the Board of Supervisors. The letter included a description of the Society - a group formed for the instruction and enjoyment of country dancing; a statement by Treanor that the group had done everything possible to keep the noise at the lowest level; and a request that the country dance group not be required to purchase a permit or meet elsewhere.
