“Well, Santa Claus has prevailed,” said Washington Mayor Newbill Miller after the Town Council voted unanimously to purchase garlands for Washington signposts at last week’s meeting.
The vote came after expressions of doubt by Miller and other council members as to whether the town could; afford the money usually authorized at Christmas time for holiday decorations.
The motion made by Councilwoman Dorothy Hawkins was to “authorize the garden club or some other group to make garlands not to exceed the 1980 charge.” Hawkins recalled
