They are native to Africa, the sub-continert and Hawaii and while larger mongooses may dine occasionally on small rodents (and perhaps even a snake), most are insect eaters.

When in Africa, the Roods are provided Western-style accomodations in the pleasant environment of a plateau 5,000 feet above sea level. Sometimes, other researchers at the Wildlife Center bring their families along but more often, Josephine finds herself without a peer group in an adult society; however, she is interested in her father's pursuits and doesn’t consider herself to be deprived. When in Rappahannock, she attends Wakefield School.

A Michigander from Kalamazoo. Jon graduated from the University in Ann Arbor and went on to graduate school in Great Britain earning his PhD from Southhampton, where he met his wife. Hazel. Through their teamwork approach-to Jon’s career, they are able to travel frequently to Africa where they have gained intimate views of the life styles of the animals of the Serengetti. They will present those views in their talk and films at the library on April 1.
