As a public service, the Rappahannock News offers the following “fact sheet” on the Sperryville sewer project. We suggest that the information be clipped and brought to the public hearing on the proposed sewage treatment plant scheduled for Monday, March 29, at 7:30 in the court house in Washington.
- A Step I Facilities Plan for providing wastewater collection and treatment facilities for the Community of Sperryville was prepared and approved by the State Water Control Board and the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1977.
- The approved plan provided for a 29,100 feet of 8 inch gravity collection system with treatment by means of a two cell facultative aerated lagoon with a design flow capacity of 55,000 gallons per day.
- Step II design plans, specifications and cost estimates were prepared and approved by the State Health Department, the State Water Control Board and the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1980 on the gravity collection and facultative aerated treatment lagoon.
- Upon submission of the Step III Construction Grant Application, the updated cost estimates for the proposed system proved to be too expensive for the users to support. The Step III application was not forwarded to EPA. The State Water
