facility near Front Royal. In an example of the cross-over of study areas incorporated in the gifted and talented program, the students will research their favorite animal and create a product in poetry, scupture, drawing or essay.
Rappahannock's Last Minute Wood Company will conduct a modern dance and improvisation workshop as an element of Laurie Marshall's performing seminar. Musically inclined youngsters will get an opportunity to work with singer and guitarist Bill Abernathy of the Okays. Students will also tape a dramatic reading by Waldron and Sam O’Connor which will be used in learning disabled resource classes. Performances by students in the program will be video-taped, possibly for entry in a statewide media contest.
Projects for the art seminar include a backdrop painting for the Woman’s Club Fashion Show, a mural for the junior-senior prom and an exhibit with the theme “Images of America” for display at the Choral Society’s spring concert. Under the direction of Marshall and RCHS art teacher Don Bomberger, the budding artists will also view video-tapes of established giants—Degas, Rembrandt, Goya and Mexican muralists.
Triad Enrichment
According to superintendent Estabrook, this year’s revised program is patterned after the triad enrichment model developed by Dr. Joseph Renzulli, the nationally recognized authority in the field of gifted and talented courses. ‘‘His notion is that you don’t do things differently for gifted and talented youngsters. You treat all youngsters alike in terms of your general educational offerings. The difference is the added provision you make for gifted and talented students to expand and refine those general offerings. It’s not a program that's totally divorced from the activities for the other youngsters,”
