A group of citizens interested in the arts have scheduled a public meeting for April 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the court house to solicit public opinion on alternatives for a Piedmont Regional Arts Center.
Currently, the committee is looking at three options for facility: (1) purchase of the movie house in Washington, (2) rental of the old Washington school from William Carrigan and (3) purchase of another building or purchase of a lot and construction of a building.
The interested individuals who have been involved over the past few months with efforts to establish a nonprofit, arts-related corporation are hoping to solicit ideas at the meeting with the aim of forming a group to carry those ideas forward.
Initially, the aims of the committee covered
—sponsoring programs related to the performing, cinematic and fine arts including but not limited to the Rappahannock Players, Rappahannock Choral Society, Last Minute Wood Company, Rappahannock Country Dancers and classic and other film entertainment.
—encouraging an artsskills exchange with classes and workshops in such areas as photography, pottery, music and other educational arts and crafts disciplines.
—promoting activities relating to historical research, language arts and other educational and cultural fields.
